Nobody enjoys a flight delay. And while delays are usually not predictable very far in advance, you can maximize your odds for an on-time arrival by booking flights on the world’s timeliest airlines or from the airports with the fewest delays. Aviation analytics company Cirium just released its report for June 2024 for on-time arrivals for airlines and airports’ on-time departures, which might persuade you to fly one airline (or from one airport) over another.

Only one U.S. airline cracked the top 10 globally for on-time arrivals: Delta, with 80.05% of its 148,781 flights last month arriving on time. But that’s pretty impressive given Delta’s massive volume of flights. For comparison, the top-performing airline was Saudia, with 88.22% of its flights arriving on time, but it only had 16,133 flights in June 2024. Delta’s partner airline Aeromexico also had an impressive month, ranking second with 86.18% of its 16,844 flights arriving on time.

As for the rest of the U.S. airlines, Alaska Airlines follows Delta with 77.79% on-time arrivals, while United is just a step behind at 77.44% on-time arrivals. The worst U.S. airline for on-time arrivals is Frontier, which only had 64.18% of its flights arrive on time.

In terms of airports, several U.S. hubs made the top 20 list for on-time departures from major international airports. Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) had the fewest delays in June 2024: 80.43% of its flights departed on time, placing it eighth in the world. Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) ranked ninth in the world with 79.89% of its flights departing on time. Rounding out the top 20 are Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) in 12th place at 78.58%;  Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) in 16th place at 77.63%; and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at 77.57%.

In case you’re curious, the world’s best airport for on-time departures is King Khalid International Airport (RUH) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, followed by São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) in Brazil, with 85.6% and 85.13% on-time departures, respectively.
