I Bought All My Honeymoon Outfits From Amazon

I’ll admit it: When I’m packing for a trip, I spend just as much time strategizing how each outfit will look on my Instagram feed as I do its function and practicality. Last November, I jetted to Tulum for a minimoon following my September wedding, and I knew I had to stock up on ‘gram-worthy outfits to match the Mexican beach town’s bohemian vibes.

Tulum has a very specific aesthetic: Everything is beachy, boho-inspired, and typically leans on earthy, neutral tones. Think: skimpy silhouettes, lots of macrame, and a palette of tans, whites, and browns. I wanted to embrace that style for my trip wardrobe, but I didn’t have much that fit the bill in my closet. So, I turned to Amazon to stock up on affordable clothing and swim items.

Travel + Leisure

I’m a dedicated carry-on-only flier, so I carefully balanced my sartorial choices with a practical, packable mindset. Therefore, sadly, this extra-oversized floppy beach hat I’d been eyeing didn’t make the cut. However, a wrinkle-resistant crop top and midi skirt set and a lightweight, foldable zippered tote did. Below are all my Amazon finds that elevated my Tulum wardrobe, as well as a few functional accessories that made my trip go more smoothly.

Travel + Leisure

Zesica Bohemian Strapless Maxi Dress With Lace Trim

Amazon

This strapless, smocked dress was the perfect daytime ensemble, keeping me breezy and cool while I strolled through Tulum’s jewelry shops and stopped for a beachfront lunch. The rayon number has a comfy, elastic bust that stayed put without issue. The billowy maxi skirt is lined to knee-length, so it wasn’t see-through at all, and a crochet panel at the bottom of the skirt added flair. Although it comes in 20 gorgeous hues, I found the dusty “pink” (it’s more of a blushy light brown) to be the perfect muted tone for the Tulum backdrop.

Zaful Crop Top and Side Slit Ruched Maxi Skirt Set

Amazon

I don’t typically wear crop tops in my “real life,” but the Tulum nightlife calls for it. This belly-baring set — complete with a high-neck, sleeveless top and a draped midi skirt with a thigh-high slit — was the ideal ensemble for a late dinner at Gitano. The polyester-spandex material was super stretchy and comfortable, so I didn’t really mind wearing the form-fitting look for a meal. Plus, it was pretty wrinkle-resistant, so I didn’t have to steam it after grabbing it from my suitcase. I paired the pull-on set in brown with white slides and slicked my hair back into a low bun to keep my neck cool.

Avidlove Lace Bralette Crop Top

Amazon

This versatile crop top looked just as good with a pair of cut-off denim shorts for a daytime stroll as it did with a silky slip midi skirt for a nine-course tasting menu at Arca. It’s a pull-on style with adjustable racer-back straps, so it felt more like wearing a long-line sports bra than a slinky top (Read: It was very comfortable). The nylon-spandex fabric was stretchy and breathable, and the scalloped lace edges gave it a beachy feel. It comes in 16 colors, but I really loved the beige which was easy to pair with a variety of items from my wardrobe.

Cupshe Deep V-neck Criss Cross One-piece Swimsuit

Amazon

When I travel to a beachy destination, I always pack at least one one-piece and at least one bikini. I find that sometimes I just feel more comfortable when I’m a bit more covered up, so it’s ideal to have both options available. This flattering nylon-spandex one-piece was anything but boring thanks to a deeply plunging neckline and waist ties. Although the long ties looked intimidating at first, they actually made the swimsuit much easier to get into since I only had to pull up the bottom half. The ties also made the fit of the top half totally customizable.

Fatty Tiger High Waisted Thong Bikini Set

Amazon

If you’re open to showing a bit more skin in your swimsuit, I recommend this nylon-spandex two-piece, which has a skimpy silhouette but also stays put really well. The high-waisted thong bikini bottom is very flattering, and the cross-back top has adjustable straps to help you get the perfect fit. I wore this bikini for lounging around on the oceanside cabanas, and I covered up with a sarong (more on that below) when I headed to the beach bar for lunch.

Furtalk Wide Brim Straw Panama Hat

Amazon

This sunhat proved key for shielding my face and eyes from the sun — and for completely covering my face when I took a little nap on the cabana bed. I liked that this lightweight hat had an adjustable band inside so it stayed secure on my head. There was also a detachable chin strap that could be used on windier days or to hang the hat from my neck. The hat can be folded for packing, but I opted to clip it to the outside of my beach tote using a hat clip.

Rainify Hat Clip

Amazon

I bought this two-pack of vegan leather hat clips for myself and my husband, and we used them to fasten our sunhats to our bags each day. When we went for a dip in the water and left our hats on the cabana beds, the clip came in handy to prevent our hats from blowing away in the breeze. The toothy clamp was strong but didn’t damage my straw hat at all. I love that they come in a bunch of fun colors so you can match your clip to your bag.

Kememo Corduroy Tote Bag with Zip

Amazon

Though many Tulum hotels will provide you with a straw beach bag to borrow, I prefer to keep my items more secure in a zippered carryall. I packed this lightweight tote — which rolled up to fit easily inside my carry-on — and I brought it with me to the beach each day filled with sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and my towel. I picked the beige corduroy hue, which matched nicely with every outfit I brought. The fabric-lined bag also has two inner slash pockets for stowing a phone or some cash. Back at home, I now keep the bag in the trunk of my car in case of any last-minute, unexpected shopping trips.

JW Pei Carly Saddle Bag

Amazon

JW Pei rose to Instagram stardom for its high-end-looking vegan leather bags with much more affordable price tags than you’d expect. The brand even counts Selena Gomez, Lupita Nyong’o, Megan Fox, and Oprah Winfrey among its celebrity fanbase. I knew I wanted to travel with an Instagram-worthy statement purse, but I didn’t want to risk losing or damaging any of my pricier designer items. This half-moon-shaped faux croc shoulder bag was perfect for all my evening adventures including multi-course tasting menus and bar hopping. The zip-top purse with gold-tone hardware was spacious enough to hold my phone, wallet, sunglasses, chapstick, and even a purse-shaped water bottle

Eicolorte Beach Sarong, Pack of 2

Amazon

A simple yet sophisticated coverup option, this two-pack of maxi sarongs was used daily for my beach excursions. They’re lightweight, breezy, and a bit sheer. Though I mostly wore them like a skirt over my swimsuits, they can also be donned as a single-strapped dress with a tie waist. The slub yarn fabric has a naturally wrinkled texture, so I wasn’t bothered by any creases that came from packing these in my luggage.

Cushionaire Nan Braided Low Block Heel Sandal

Amazon

With a similar silhouette to Dolce Vita’s popular Indy Sandals, these slides come at a lower price without sacrificing any style points. The sensible 1-inch heel elevated the vegan leather sandals while keeping them highly walkable. Their versatility made them perfect for taking on a trip: They’re water-resistant, so I was able to wear them to the beach, but they were also elegant enough to wear to a fancy dinner with a flowy maxi dress at night. They come in six neutral hues, any of which are bound to match your entire vacation wardrobe.

Cushionaire Feather Cloud Recovery Slide Sandals

Amazon

The TikTok-viral “cloud slides” live up to the hype: The squishy ethylene vinyl acetate material had me feeling like I was walking on a cloud with every step. The waterproof slides are a great option for the beach or pool, but I also like to lounge around in them at the hotel because they’re even comfier than slippers. The only downside is that they’re a bit bulky to pack, but they’re also super lightweight. A potential solution: You can wear them on the plane, but don’t forget to pack socks since plane cabins can get chilly.

Innersy Women’s Slip Shorts

Amazon

To avoid the dreaded thigh rub, I wear these shorts under every dress or skirt. The nylon-spandex slip shorts have a generous elastic waist that’s super comfy but stays put. They’re breathable, durable, and machine-washable. Just note that they’re not shapewear (which I prefer), so don’t expect much compression. I found the high-waisted, mid-thigh design fit comfortably under almost all of my dresses, but they may be a bit too long for some mini skirts.

Nippies Sticky Adhesive Silicone Pasties

Amazon

Nipple covers are super convenient bra alternatives for clothing with tricky necklines (like the strapless sundress above). I also wear them when I want extra coverage under my swimsuit. The silicone stickies stay in place for up to 12 hours, regardless of sweating or swimming. They have tapered edges that blend seamlessly into skin, so they’re invisible under clothing. They’re so comfortable, I may have accidentally fallen asleep in them a time or two since I forgot I was wearing them. (Oops.)

While some nipple covers are sold as one size/color fits all, I love that these come in five different nude tones (ranging from creme to espresso) and in two sizes depending on your bra cup. I hand wash them with hand soap and water after every wear, and they’re always dry and ready to re-use the next morning. I buy a new pair of these every 1-2 months, depending on how often I’ve worn them.

Cherrydew Bamboo Viscose Cooling Pajama Set

Amazon

Even though I fly carry-on-only, I never travel without pajamas. A pair of cooling pajamas is an essential part of my sleep routine, and I can’t imagine enjoying a luxe hotel while sleeping in an old T-shirt. This stretchy, comfy pair is made from cooling viscose from bamboo with a touch of spandex — the same composition as Cozy Earth’s much-more-expensive version (which I also love, by the way). It has a luxurious feeling without the hefty price tag.
